Sam Lord´s Legend
Legend has it that Sam Lord funded his lavish lifestyle by plundering ships: lanterns hanging in the coconut trees on his estate tricked captains into thinking they were approaching a safe harbor, but instead they sailed into jagged reefs that wrecked their ships. The pirates on shore would then row out to the stranded ships and pillage the treasures.Divers still search the reefs around Sam Lord’s Castle for treasures to this day, though any left behind are now surely scattered by the tides. Sadly, the original castle is mostly gone as well: it was gutted by a major fire in 2010. Its ruins remain at the resort today as a historic landmark.
